Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(bright music) - [Michelle] Here at the MSU Broad Art Museum in East Lansing, Michigan where we help artists share important stories about their world.
And I'm going to share one of those stories with you today.
We're looking at a sculpture suspended in the air by Beatrice Cortez called Generosity II.
Imagine this silver sculpture is a satellite floating through outer space.
What do you think it might hold?
The small clear containers store seeds for corn, beans, quinoa, amaranth, sorghum, and gourd.
It's like a time capsule, preserving important resources for the future.
Each of these seeds carry their own story; the history of the different civilizations that farmed them.
The artists tells us that saving seeds is like a gift the ancestors offered for humans.
An act of generosity towards someone they did not know.
If you could send something into the future what would it be?
Use your creativity to make a time capsule to save something you think is important.
Thanks for joining me for this art story today.
Your family can discover more art stories at the MSU Broad or at a museum near you.
