Well, I don't wanna keep you in the dark so let's get into it.
(upbeat music) Hello, I am Mrs. Fred and I have a great art project for you today.
We are gonna be working with silhouettes and color families, also known as color schemes.
So a silhouette is an image that is back lit or the light comes from behind and it shows an object in its most simplest form as a black outline and it evokes emotion and its beautiful.
Now, our color families are a little bit different.
The color families live on the color wheel.
Every color lives here.
And every single color starts with primary colors: blue, yellow, and red.
When you mix those colors, you get the secondary colors: green, purple, and orange.
But that's not all.
There are other color groupings or color buddies.
Now, this is an example of complimentary colors.
They really compliment each other or make each other look really good.
We have blue and orange, purple and yellow, and red and green.
Now we also have another couple sets of color families.
So our warm colors and our cool colors are both examples of analogous colors.
That means they live next to each other on the color wheel.
So for example, our red, orange, and yellow they all live in the same neighborhood.
And our blues, greens, and purples they all live in the other side of the neighborhood.
So they are living next to each other on the color wheel.
That's what analogous colors are and that's what we're gonna be using today.
But before we get started we cannot begin without doing our art motto.
Every day I'm going to ask you to try your best, be creative, and problem solve.
Now this is pretty important, so let's pin it up so that we can remember to do that through our whole project.
Now let's see what we're up to for today.
Today's art goals are to create a silhouette painting with analogous colors in the background.
Remember those analogous colors are the colors that live next to each other on the color wheel.
Our second goal is to try out the wet on wet painting technique with watercolor.
We are going to use thick paper, a paintbrush, a paint rag, watercolors, pencil, eraser maybe even a blow dryer, ink, and always your imagination.
All right, to get our page started, we are going to do a water wash all across the entire page.
After I've woken up my paints by putting a little water in them, I'm going to create these paint blooms.
This is simply me touching wet watercolor paint onto a wet page and just watching those colors blend together.
(upbeat music) Now, after my page has dried a little bit, I'm gonna create these little speckles just by dipping my brush into white paint and tapping it all around the page.
Kind of gives like a galaxy effect.
Hit that with a little dryer if you need to.
And now that the paper is completely dry, all I'm gonna do is draw my object right onto my dried page and then paint it with this really great material called India ink.
Now if you don't have India ink, black paint of any sort will do.
And this creates the silhouette.
(upbeat music) And now we have our silhouette drawing.
Did we do our job today?
I think so.
Did we create a silhouette painting with analogous colors in the background?
Yeah.
Here we go.
And these colors are all next to each other on the color wheel.
So we did that.
And did we test out a wet on wet watercolor painting technique?
Yeah, we did.
So I think we nailed it.
Well, thank you for creating with me today.
I had a great time.
I hope you enjoyed learning about color and silhouette.
Now remember, keep on arting.x (upbeat music)
