Young and love oh, I was young and in love okay baby will you love me or judge me I'm young and in love Baby will you love me or judge me I'm young and in love All right.
Joza!
What's up, brother?
I'm good man.
Welcome to Streetlight Sessions.
Thank you.
I love this prop.
I love this prop.
Did you even love me?
Of course.
I mean, you're rapping about heartbreak.
Yes, sir.
Sounds like it's personal for you, right?
Yeah.
Can you can you give us some insight into the inspiration behind that first track?
100%.
This was based on a 100% true story.
Heartbreak, relationships, those moments when you're in something and you don't realize that you're out of yourself and you have a lot of time to reflect after the relationship is over on what you may have done wrong or what they've done wrong.
And this was just a review of of a relationship, basically.
And one of the main questions was, did you even love me?
I tell you what, the, the visual that you're giving us right now here on Streetlight Sessions is actually a preview of the video to come, right?
Yes sir.
The video is to come.
Yes, sir.
So what, we're getting a kind of an insight into what that video is going to look like, which is very, very cool.
So stay tuned on that.
Right, sir?
Yes, sir.
The music video will be releasing soon.
Directed by Wallace Hill.
Edited by Nolan Duff.
All my buddies from MSU.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, we came together zero budget.
And just decided to take on this song and try to evoke a feeling of emotion that's hopefully relatable to the people watching.
And those mutual partie is how we met a few years ago.
And I've been a fan o your music for quite some time.
Thank you.
Joe, I want to talk about a really cool accomplishment that was bestowed upon you a couple of years ago.
You are a Grammy U Ambassador?
Yes, sir.
For the Chicago chapter.
Yes, the Grammys, folks, the Recording Academy.
How did that come about?
Oh, man.
It came about my senior year at MSU.
A friend sent me, information about an organization called Grammy U, which is under Recording Academy.
I joined it my senior year just to be an artist and, won a competition to perfor at Millennium Park in Chicago.
And, I opened up for this entire park, and after that, they offered me a position to be Grammy U Ambassador.
And I've been Grammy U Ambassador for the past two years for Chicago chapter.
So what does that mean?
What is an ambassador for Grammy U mean?
So basically that means that I am I am representing the Recording Academy, to artists from the ages of 18 to 29.
And in any, any type of creative that wants to be in a music industry, this is the place for them.
This is the place for us.
It's a community of just other creatives to work and collaborat and build on their careers and, you know, like just go on this journey together.
It has been an amazing journey so far.
I've met so many amazing people, have been a lot of places, and, it's literally changed my life from my perspective as an artist all my career.
It shows me that this can actually happen.
Like, you can achieve your dreams and your goals by just leaning into a, you know, like organization like that.
So I'm super grateful.
No doubt, no doubt.
And speaking of Chicago, Chance the Rapper, I want to bring this u because this all ties together.
First of all, the next song that our audience is going to hear is, it has a really tropical vibe to it.
Hence why I'm wearing, you know, a shirt with palm trees on.
It's like I'm on a resort.
You look clean, man.
You know.
Yeah.
I want it to match the vibe of of your next track, Feet on Land.
Yes.
Also in Feet on Land, a people will hear, you reference Chance the Rapper.
Yes.
From Chicago.
100%.
Because you were featured on the Rhythm and Flow Netflix show and had an interesting, interaction I should say, with the Chance.
Can you tell us about that a little bit?
100%.
So I was 19 years old.
I appeared on season one of Rhythm and Flow for Netflix, and, I got flown out to Chicago to audition.
At the time, I wen by the name of Joe the Rapper.
Created the name long before Chance the Rapper did.
And, I get on stage, I introduce myself, and he stops me and he says, let me guess, you came up with that name before me?
I said, yes, I did.
Because he's Chance the Rappe and Joe the Rapper.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, like as if as if we can't coexist.
But but yeah.
So like, we had a whole spat back and forth on stage.
He was a cool guy, but I was, you know, you know, like it definitely like.
Yeah.
I 100% came up with this before you.
Well, I tell you what, this next track, I absolutely love it.
And again, you referenced that moment in the track.
Folks will hear it.
Feet on Land.
Yes, Joe.
I'll let you take it away, man.
Let me get out your way.
All right?
Yes, sir.
Thank you.
Thank yo for coming on the show, brother.
Absolutely.
All right.
Just another man hard to understand Drowning once again now my feet on land and I just don't know where to go Just hoping I find my way back home Back from unpopular demand Ever since Chance it was Joe, where you been?
Must've got lost in Chicago winds I'm locked in I can't stop again Flush the toxins and hush the nonsense Read the fine print and get back in the alignment Won't finish the movie if you keep rewinding This was God sent, tell me how did you find it?
I was blinded by anxiet over the logic chasing profit, not knowing that I'm a prophet Stop it now it's deposits on the deposits Momma in in the tropics I told you I got it Back from popular demand Ever since Chance it was Joe, where you been?
Must have got lost in Chicago winds I'm locked in My feet is on land Just another man hard to understand And now I'm drowning once again Now my feet on land and I just don't know where to go Hoping I find my way my way, my way back home What you about to see has got to be the spirit of a God emcee Separating the weak from the obsolete We mob deep wreaking havoc prodigie I need more of what I came for We in the building but not at the same door Tell me what you want the fame for what you think I rap for?
To push me a Rav4?
We at the back door To be honest we was nickel and diming Hoping for diamonds from the craft we mining God designed it, Congress signed it, all from rhyming What's the point of a wall when we climbing Up at the top of the hill you not as real We don't care about how you feel you know the deal Ever since Chance it was Joe, where you been?
I was following the plan they finally understand I'm just another man Hard to understand drowning once again Now my feet on land and I just don't know where to go Just hoping I find my way back home back home back home
